I’ve met Klaus and his “gang” about a year ago in Berlin, check out the ARGAN link it’s a Molière piece mashed up with the “Mauerlauf” a movie that commemorate the building of the Berlin Wall. Different Berliners walk/run exactly were the wall was standing and doing their thing.

Makode Linde’s Painful Cake installation at Moderna Museet which was part of World Art Day on April 15th. Shaped like a black woman’s torso Makode sits at the end of the cake, shouting out loud each time somebody cuts a piece, starting at the clitoris. Like the icing on the cupcake, Swedish minister of culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth was there in order to highlight the issue of female circumcision, eating and feeding Makode. Now spokesperson for the National Afro-Swedish Association, Kitimbwa Sabuni, calls for her resignation.

I can only ask for one thing: stick to the point. Like Makode says himself: “If one pulls things out of context, it is easy to feel offended or angry […] I am using an old caricature of black – this “Blackface” that whites used once in order to mock blacks. Then, I worked on strengthening the cartoons to illustrate the prejudices that exist.”

“I really wish that African Swedes had followed my art – there are not that many African-Swedish artists. Had they done so they would have understood that I am fighting against racism and prejudice”, Makode says and emphasizes that the main purpose of the cake was not to depict mutilation. (via)
